sparkly

Tilly’s little fuzz head is currently sparkly with glitter. We spent the morning with friends and remnants of the girls’ glitter snowflake project drifted to all nearby surfaces, including the baby’s head. There was supposed to be cookie decorating, too, but the big girls were having such a good time playing and the moms were so enjoying their gabbing that we didn’t get around to the cookies.

We are in our own home for Christmas for the first time and, while it is really nice to not be getting on a plane, part of celebrating the holidays has, for years, involved traveling long distances to be with family. We are trying to find ways to make Christmas special here, just us. But without a boarding pass and jam-packed suitcases and anxious checks of Midwest weather reports, it’s hard to believe it’s the night before the night before Christmas.

The glitter-headed baby helps. As does Josephine’s extreme excitement for the big day. The cookies I made the other day are making things sweeter, too. And the lights shining through the long, dark nights.

grateful

a belated thanksgiving post…

i’m thankful for my beautiful, thriving girls. and for my steadfast, hard-working, patient husband who takes care of us all and keeps me laughing. i’m thankful for our home and for warmth and good food. i’m thankful for good health. i’m thankful for our amazing community of friends and family who lift us up and grounds us at the same time.

i’m thankful we had a table to spread with good food on thanksgiving and share with ned’s parents and with cousin eliza. i’m thankful for a turkey the same size as the baby. i’m thankful for our fireplace and for pie. and for eliza’s guitar.

auntie and the boys

we had such a splendid visit from my sister and her family — a chilly playground with mountain views, a caspar concert at a donut shop, cousin baths, baby-snuggling, sail boat rides, and gym explorations. if we didn’t have friends who live there, i would be writing a very strongly-worded letter to the president to urge him to consider evicting montana from the union so that washington was closer to minnesota (because that’s how that would work). in the meantime, we’ll enjoy the brief visits.
