sleeping in a tent, in a sleeping bag

so we went camping this weekend with sara, jason and baby colin. i think we might have spent more time packing and unpacking and doing post-camping laundry than we spent in the great outdoors, but those outdoors were pretty darn great, so it feels like an ok balance.

josephine loved it.  the whole drive there she kept asking if we were at the campsite yet.  and once we were at the campsite, she was nuts for climbing over the logs around the fire grate, rolling around in the sleeping bags in the tent, peeing on her new portable potty, and collecting pinecones in a little cup.  she also loved hiking on ned’s back.  and she was quite excited to see mount rainier up close and personal.  (she also enjoyed waking up at 5:30 am and screeching about how she didn’t want to go back to sleep for about an hour. that was fun.  tents are not soundproof and we had neighbors.  i would have sold her to the highest bidder in the campground right about then — although i don’t think the bids would be very high as everyone would probably be groggy and cranky, having also just been woken up from a nice night of fresh-air sleep — but we kept her and the day got better.)

LOVE the potty chair in the great outdoors! How fun. 🙂 Sounds like you had a great trip, even if you spent more time in preparation than actually camping. 🙂

I’m actually feeling extremely intimidating to be (maybe) going camping with such experienced campers. I’m just imagining Sydney joining in the 5:30am chorus. We must get together asap so you can tell me all your camping with toddlers secrets, to prepare me for the fun.

oh, and apologies for my glaring lack of comments on your blog. i’m normally such a frequent viewer and got out of the habit for a tiny bit. i’ve just had an extremely enjoyable 10 minutes reading the past few posts. you are just the best mom ever. and you have the second cutest little girl ever. 🙂
